「生きとって良かったなぁ、お父さん。まさかこうして家族三人水入らずで、新年が迎えられるなんて…」。
母は温泉宿で迎えた、元日のお節料理を前に涙ぐんだ。
あれは今を遡る、33年前。
その前年は、これでもかと言う程の試練が、ぼくの人生に怒涛のように押し寄せた。
まず、夢を捨てきれず追い続けた、シンガーソング・ライターへの道を断念。
ある方の導きもあり、この世界の裏方である、企画の仕事に携わることに。
しかし、その独立を果たした翌日、父が頭部動脈瘤に倒れた。
それから約半年、母は内職もままならず、父の病室に付きっ切りに。
まだ独立したばかりで、収入も定まらぬぼくは、深夜から朝まで、鮮魚市場でのアルバイトを掛け持った。
そして昼間に自分の仕事を片付け、市場で母の晩ご飯と、翌日の菓子パンなどを買い込み、病院を見舞ったものだ。
家族三人が、力を合わせたこともあってか、父の生命力の賜物か。
或いは、母の命懸けの付き添いと、祈りの御陰か。
父はリハビリを終え無事生還。
ぼくも鮮魚市場でのアルバイトを辞し、やっと自分の仕事に専念することが出来た。
その年の暮れも押し迫った時のことだ。
「そうだ、両親を温泉に連れて行こう」。
急にそう思い立ち、大晦日に車で下呂へと向かった。
中津川で中央高速を降り、加子母村から舞台峠を越え下呂へ。
観光案内所へと飛び込み、温泉宿に潜り込んだ。
夕食を終え、小さくなった父の背を流し、湯船に浸りながら、遠くの山々にこだます、除夜の鐘の音に耳を澄ました。
いみじくも下呂温泉までの道程が、まるでわが家の一年と重なった気がした。
長閑な加子母村を通り抜けると、険しい峠道へと差し掛かる。
峠の石碑には、「鎌倉時代、北条時頼が大威徳寺参詣の折り、この峠に能舞台を設け、疲れを癒し民衆にも鑑賞させた」と。
それ以降、ここが舞台峠と呼ばれたとか。
「人生はまるで九十九折れの峠やなぁ。上ったり下ったり。まあまた下ったら、そしたら上りゃええだけや」。
母はことりと呟き、お屠蘇の入った盃を空けた。

取り返しのつかないほど親不孝ばかりしていましたから、そんなささやかなささやかな事でも、両親にとっては目から鱗の出来事だったのでしょうねぇ。
『下ったらまた上がりゃええ』
そうなんですよね〜。
平坦な道なんてないですからね。
私はまだ下がってる途中かな。
いつか床に足が着いたら ポンっと床を蹴って跳ね上がろうと思ってます( ◠‿◠ )
例えるならウルトラマンみたいな姿？

しっかり地面に両足をつけてしゃがみこんでからじゃなきゃ、引力に逆らって跳ね上がれませんものねぇ。
どんなに素晴らしい人だって、そうそういつも跳ね上がってばかりいちゃあ疲れちゃいますよねぇ。
たまにゃあ地べたにひれ伏して、大地のエネルギーで体を満たさなきゃ！
