洋裁の内職をする母の傍らで、古ぼけた小さなトランジスタラジオから、流行歌が流れていた。
中でも母のお気に入りは、鶴岡正義と東京ロマンチカ。
「君は心の妻だから」が、ラジオから流れ出すと、針を運ぶ手を止め、うっとりとした表情で、一緒に口ずさんでいたものだ。
ぼくが中学に上がるまではと、母はどんなに貧しく、遣り繰り算段を強いられても、鍵っ子にだけはさせたくないと言い張った。
それは母なりの、家族の要としての矜持であったようだ。
だから内職よりも、遥かに割の良いパート勤めにも出ず、日長一日くけ台の横に座し、目を細めながら針を運び続けた。
父とぼくを送り出してから、ぼくが授業を終え「ただいま～っ」と無事に帰るその時まで、母の話し相手はラジオだったのだろう。
母が他界し、遺品整理をしていた時のことだ。
押入れの奥にあった段ボール箱から、当時の母が愛用した、小さな銀色のトランジスタラジオが現れた。
思わず懐かしさのあまり、手に取って見る。
すると子どもの頃の記憶が、瞬時に蘇った。
銀色だったはずのトランジスタラジオは、金属の部分が変色し、すっかり赤茶けてしまっている。
しかし紛れもなく、このラジオに違いない。
在りし日の母が耳を傾け、時にはラジオから流れくる流行歌に合わせ、口ずさんでいた、母の唯一の友。
喜怒哀楽全ての母の感情に、絶えず寄り添い続けてくれたのだ。
そう思うと、何だかとても愛おしいものに思えてならなかった。
思わずラジオの横にある、ダイヤル式のボリュームを捻り、赤茶けたスピーカーの網目に耳を近付けて見る。
すると微かに、遠い日の、母の歌声が聞こえるような気がした。

小型ラジオ、良いですね。野球中継を聴く際も臨場感があって。私の父母もラジオ好きでした。母は、オカダさんのご母堂様のように針仕事ならぬ畑仕事に携えて行きました。
それにしても、不思議ですね。オカダさんの文章を拝読すると、私は子供の頃に、ワープしてしまいます。時には昔の匂いまでも蘇ります。
ぼくなんて自分の加齢と共に、子どもの頃の「あの日」が鮮明に浮かび上がって来ちゃいます。
それと同時に、当時の歌謡曲まで何気に鼻歌で歌っていたり。
でもそれがとても幸せでもあります。
我が家が初めてラジオを買ったのは
あの恐ろしき伊勢湾台風の時で・・
丁度、写真のようなラジオでした。
今みたいに性能が良くないから
「ガァ―ガァ―」雑音が入って仕方なかった。
最も昔の事だから今みたいに
NHKも24時間台風情報もしないしねぇ！
因みにラジオが好きになったのは
オカダさんお陰だねぇ！
けどさ～ぁ⤴
今じゃ～⤴なんも⤴聞いてないけど！
アナログ時代のあのチューニングが懐かしいですねぇ。
時には遥か彼方の外国放送が聞こえたり。
何だか心の世界旅行を楽しめたものでしたねぇ。
お母様に感謝ですね( ◠‿◠ )
学校から帰った時に「お帰り〜」って言って貰えるのって嬉しいですよね。
小学生の頃からず〜っと鍵っ子で 友達の家に遊びに行って 夕方帰宅して また鍵で玄関を開ける…。
「お帰り〜」の生活 憧れちゃいます。
「ただいま～っ」「お帰り～っ」って、大切な家族のコミュニケーションの原点の言語じゃないでしょうかねぇ。
親にも楽しい時間があったんだと思える事は子供としては嬉しいですよね⤴️
そうそう、今にして思えば確かにそうですものねぇ。
子供の頃はこのような小さいトランジスタラジオ、ありました。これで聴いていたのは、ロイ・ジェームス司会の「不二家歌謡ベストテン」でした。ユーミンの「ルージュの伝言」が1位だったのを覚えています。その後、自分用にソニーのラジオを購入してもらいました。これは現在も使用しています。
しかしそのソニーのラジオも殿堂入りですなぁ！
