今日の「天職人」は、岐阜県高山市久々野町の「飛騨桃 果樹園主」。（平成23年8月13日毎日新聞掲載）
ほんのり赤く色付いた 飛騨の桃園夏木立 一家総出で桃を摘みゃ 里に童のはしゃぎ声 裏手の山の湧き水で 熟した桃もヒンヤリと 童が競い頬張れば 久々野の渓に風渡る
岐阜県高山市久々野町で昭和40(1965)年から飛騨桃生産を続ける、切手直義果樹園。主の切手直義さんを訪ねた。
久々野桃源郷の朝は、今が一年で一番早く訪れる。
とはいえ本物のお天道様が、ここにだけ煌々と昇っているわけではない。
果樹園の作業場だけが、午前２時だというのに、蛍光灯の光を放つ。
「ちょうどお盆の今からが、飛騨桃の出荷の最盛期やさ」。直義さんは、直径10センチは下らない大粒の飛騨桃に、そっと手を添え箱へと詰め込む。
ほんのりと薄紅に色付いた、気品漂う高貴な桃である。
「傷つけたらしまいやさ。みんな大切な箱入り娘ばっかりやでな」。
直義さんは昭和17年、３人兄弟の長男として誕生。
中学を出ると１年間、同県可児市の修練農場で寮生活へ。
「そうやなあ。寮ゆうても今とは違うで、自分の食う米を背負ってったもんやさ」。
昭和33年に帰郷し、家業の農作業に従事した。
「当時はまだ、水田と蚕ばっかりや」。
昭和40年、直義さんを含む20人の有志で、10㌶の果樹園を共同で開いた。
「終戦後、美濃から開拓団が入植して、梨やリンゴに桃を作り出したんやさ。そしたら名古屋辺りで、桃がえろう評判になって。ここらの昼夜の温度差が甘味を出すでやろ。それと飛騨桃は、他所の産地の桃が市場に出回り終わった後になって、やっと収穫を迎えるんやで、時期外れでかえって喜ばれる」。
１㌶に７～８本の桃の木が植わる。
「だいたい桃の実は、１本の木に700個。それがいっぺんに収穫期を迎えるんやて」。
だからお盆の頃の収穫期には、家族総出で摘み取り、翌朝の出荷に間に合わせるよう、夜中から箱詰めに追われる。
昭和44年、近在から黎子さん（故人）を妻に迎え、やがて一男一女が誕生。
久々野桃源郷の一円には、果樹園がその後も続々と産声を上げた。
飛騨桃の摘み取から出荷までは、1年のうちたったの１～２週間。
残りの350日ほどは、箱入り娘の嫁入り準備に追われる。
まず年明けから春先までは、枝の剪定。
飛騨の山間に遅い春が訪れると、桃の花が咲く前に蕾を間引く摘蕾。
４月末から５月初旬の開花を待って受粉。
「みな自然任せやて。ミツバチさんらにお願いしてな」。
そして摘花。
「だいたい50㌢の枝に花を１～２個残して」。
１個200㌘を超える飛騨桃ゆえ、つっかえ棒をかって枝を支える。
６～７月になると袋掛け。
「満遍なく色を付けるために、地べたに反射シート敷いてな」。
毎朝５時に起き出し、消毒や草刈に精を出す。
そしてお盆の頃から、摘み取りを始め全国各地へ出荷。
「桃の木は20年の寿命としたもんさ。桃栗三年というけど、一番甘い実を付けるのは、女盛りの10年以上のベテランさんや」。
亡き妻と二人、手塩に掛けて育て上げた箱入り娘の飛騨桃。
今年もたわわに実を結ぶ。

以前、バスツアーで
「ブルーベリー狩り＆桃食べ放題」へ行きましたが
まぁ～⤴ブルーベリーは色の濃い目の実を選んで食べれば
ほのかに甘酸っぱくて美味しかった！
桃は選ぶのが難しい！
見た目に騙せレては甘～～い⤴桃にたどり着けない！
と！果樹園のスタッスの方が説明してくれました。
果たして？甘～～い、桃に巡りあえてでしょうか？
そうなんです！色が濃くて綺麗な桃が完熟しているとは限らない
少し桃色が古く思えるくらいのが完熟して美味しかった！
人間と一緒、見た目はカッコよくても・・・
中身が大事！
あたしは例外だけどねぇ！
外見も中身も言う事なしだもんねぇ・・

果物の糖度を見分けるのは、並々ならぬ眼力と経験が必要なんでしょうねぇ。
食べ頃サインを一目で見分けられる眼鏡でも誰かが開発してくれりゃあいいのにねぇ。

桃はちょっとぶつけたりすると、すぐに変色してしまって、せっかくの真ん丸美形が残念なことになっちゃいますから、大切に大切に冷蔵庫で冷やさなきゃいけませんよねぇ。
まったくもって、箱入り娘状態の、美しい飛騨桃ですよね。
桃の花 なんて可憐なんでしょう。
そして 愛くるしい桃 ( ◠‿◠ )
きっと物凄く甘いんでしょうね。
そう言えば 去年 １回しか食べなかったなぁ〜。
今年こそは！
でも 美味しい桃を見分けられるかな？
桃の命も儚いものですから、鮮度のいいうちに盥の井戸水で冷やして、ツルンと食べたいものです。
