今日の「天職人」は、岐阜県関市の「白銀師」。（平成22年7月24日毎日新聞掲載）
刃見える武士は 鯉口切ったその刹那 柄に命を握り締め 生死の間合い推し量る 鎺に刻む鑢目に 武運を祈る白銀師 鞘に隠した護符となれ 神よご加護を兵に
岐阜県関市の兼吉刀剣、白銀師の小坂稔さんを訪ねた。
こぢんまりとした町にも関わらず、やたらと鰻屋の暖簾を見かける。
「そうやて。ここらは、刀鍛冶が多かった町やで、窯業の盛んな所と同じように、鰻屋がよおけある。刀鍛冶は、夏でも冬でも汗だくんなって、火床で火を焚かなかんでな。刀匠が刀工たちを引き連れて、鰻食わせて精をつけさせた名残やわ」。稔さんが、鑢を掛ける手を止めた。
稔さんは刃物問屋を営む父の元で、三人兄弟の長男として昭和21（1946）年に誕生。
大学を出ると剃刀の製造会社に入社。
品質管理を担当したが、わずか2年で退社し家業へ。
「その頃家では、プラスチックの成形と、打ち粉や油、それに拭い紙なんか、刀の手入れ具を製造しとったんやて。おまけに家のお爺は、馴染みの客から『刀研いでくれ、鞘や鎺作ってくれ』と頼まれて、お袋に手伝わせながら、ここらの職人に口利いとったんやわ。だからお爺が死んだら、母がお爺の仕事をやらせて欲しいと言い出してな。そしたら、そんなもん女の仕事やないやろってことになって、気付けばまんまと母にそそのかされ、ぼくにお鉢が回って来て。でもその内、鞘とかの木工よりも、研ぎや鍔とか金目のもんの方に興味が沸いてな」。
昭和58年、知り合いの世話で雅代さんと結ばれ、男子を授かった。
翌年、自己流で製造した鎺を持ち、白銀細工の師の門を潜った。
「『作業見に来てもええ』って言われ、足しげく通ったもんやて」。
だが師匠は、手取り足取り奥義を授けるわけではない。
ただひたすら見て盗む毎日の繰り返し。
東京へも8年通い続け、研鑽を積んだ。
鎺とは、刀身が鍔と接する部分の金具である。
鞘の鯉口いっぱいの幅で、鞘から刀身が抜け落ちぬよう、押さえの役を果たす。
「材は銅か銀や。銅は丈夫で長持ちするけど、緑青が吹く。銀は銅ほど丈夫やないが、錆びず刀にやさしいんやて」。
鎺作りは、鍛冶砥ぎを終えたばかりの刀身から、鎺を巻く区の採寸に始まる。
刃から棟への身幅、刃区、棟区と。
まず銅板を2つ折りし、刃区と棟区に、銅の区金を噛ませ銀蝋付け。
「身幅は小さめに作り、縦横に金鎚で叩き伸ばし、鑢で削って刀身と一体にするんやて。そして鎺の銅の上から、薄い18金の銀割りを着せ、磨き上げて鑢入れ。縦横斜めに溝を入れたりして、地域や人物を表すような色んな意匠を凝らすもんやて」。
鎺が取り付けば、柄巻師の手により中心に化粧が施される。
「鎺なんて、鯉口切って抜き身にせんと見えーへん。だから鎺が見えた時は、命を斬り結ぶ瞬間や。それくらい、ほとんど誰の目にも留まらん所の金具ですら、武士たちは鑢目の意匠にこだわったもんなんや。そう思うと鑢目模様が、武士のお守りに見えるで不思議やて」。
白銀師は、蛍光灯の灯かりに鎺を翳した。

刀に魅力を感じる人もいれば 目立たないけど細かな細工をしてあるところに惹かれる人もいらっしゃるんでしょうね。
昔は この部分を見れば 刀の所有者がわかったのかなぁ？
その人その人で こだわりがあったりして( ◠‿◠ )
今で言うと、時計とか車とか？
いずれにせよ実力とは裏腹な、金に者を言わせ、自分をより立派に見せようとした、虚仮威しでは？
いつの世でもそんな輩が蔓延っていたと思うと、笑うに笑えませんねぇ。
見えるか見えないかの部分ですが、無いと鞘がするりと抜き落ちてしまう、地味でも大事な役割りをしているんですね。
同じ人間でも、刃そのものではなく、目だ無くてもとても大切な役割を担っている方っておいでですものねぇ。
しかし「天職一芸」

でも辛いだとか、苦しいだとか、しんどいとかって言う負の気持ちを抱くのも自分ならば、瞬時にそんな負の気持ちを吹っ切れる、魔法の呪文をいつかどこかの時点で探り出すのも、やっぱり自分自身でしかないんですよねぇ。
