今日の「天職人」は、愛知県豊橋市の「チンチン電車運転士」。（平成22年6月26日毎日新聞掲載）
運転席の真後ろが 幼いぼくの指定席 「発車オーライ」チンチンと マイク片手に車掌さん 指先確認真似ながら ぼくの気分は運転士 「チンチン電車お通りだい」 それゆけ道のド真ん中
愛知県豊橋市の豊橋鉄道で、昭和47（1972）年からチンチン電車の運転士を続けた、森島留廣さんを訪ねた。
昭和を駆け抜けた、天下御免のチンチン電車。
交通量の多い大通りでも、道の中央を威風堂々たる姿でひた走ったものだ。
だがそれも東海地区では、もはや唯一、愛知県豊橋市に残るだけとなってしまった。
「元々が、しゃんべぇ（遠州弁=喋り好き）だで、車掌時代もワンマンカー運転せるようんなってからも、お客さんと接することが全然苦んならんじゃったでねぇ。昔はお婆さんなんかが、『これ、余ったやつだけど、あんたに上げるわ』って、差し入れしてくれたこともあっただ」。留廣さんだ。
昨年定年で退職し、現在は車庫内で電車を移動させる、操車係りを務めている。
留廣さんは昭和24年、静岡県浜松市で5人兄弟の3男として誕生。
中学を出るとそのまま、豊橋鉄道に入社し車掌として乗務した。
「真っ黒な車掌鞄を肩から吊り下げて、パンチ（切符に穴を開ける鋏）を西部劇のガンマンみたいに、右手でクルクルッと回して。当時は車内にマイクがあれへんもんで、大声を張り上げて案内せんとかんじゃんね」。
東京五輪が終わったばかりの時代、チンチン電車の運賃は、大人が12円、子どもが6円だった。
それから6年。車掌が乗務したツーマンから、ワンマン運行の時代へ。
「他の車掌は配置換えしてったけど、私は好きな電車から離れられず、運転士を希望しただあ」。
昭和47年に運転試験に合格。
「見習いの頃は、先輩の運転士が同乗して、通常ダイヤの合さ縫って回送電車で練習しただ」。
ワンマンに切り替わったとは言え、まだ電車はツーマン時代のまま。
「車掌が乗っとった時代ならええけど、運転士一人きりだもんで。バックやサイドのミラーを取り付けてまうまでは、勘だけで走っとっただわ」。
豊橋駅前から赤岩口まで、毎日7.5往復を運行した。
昭和51年、渥美線豊橋駅の出札に勤務する、窓口担当のマドンナ公子さんの心を射止め結婚。
三男を授かった。
「労働組合のキャンプで、初めて口利いただ」。
37年間、退職の日が訪れるまで、留廣さんは白手袋を着け、行路表（運行ダイヤ）を手に、大好きなチンチン電車を走らせた。
「何でチンチン電車かって？それは、車掌が乗務しとった時代の名残だって。車掌が呼鈴の釦を、チンチンと2回鳴らせば発車。チンが1回だと止まれ。チンチンチンチンと連打すれば緊急の合図。だもんでチンチン電車だわ。もう今では、チンチンなんて鳴らんけどな」。
中学を出て45年、ひたすら同じ道を走り続けた。
「どんなに街や人が変わろうと、未だに何一つ変わらんのは、初めて公道を電車で走った、あの時の線路だけらあ」。
それが留廣さんの愛した、豊橋レイルウェイズ。

チンチン電車で思い出されるのが、中学生の頃、友だちと「今日は市電で帰ろう！」って話しになり、いそいそと電車に乗り込んだまでは良かったのですが、窓から外を見たら先生の車が。慌てて友だちと窓の下に隠れた苦くて楽しい思い出。見つかったら大変、大変。
それにしても昔は、子どもたちに色んな制約が、課せられてましたものねぇ。
ぼくは子どもの頃から大きかったせいか、小学５年の頃に市電や市バスに乗ると、中学生が子供料金と偽って乗っているんじゃないかと、何度も何度も訝られたものです。
懐かしい！「ちんちん電車」
16年前に岐阜市内のちんちん電車が廃線になったそうですが
廃線にならなければ今だったら色んなイベントで活躍出来るのにねぇ！

ちんちん電車ライブなんて、風情があってよさげですねぇ。
まずは何はともあれ、ワクチン接種とその後の状況が安定しなければ、どうにもこうにもなりそうにないですよねぇ。
でもいつかはきっとそんな日が訪れると信じて、コロナの自衛に努めて頑張りましょうよ！

中井貴一が運転士を演じた「レイルウェイズ」良かったですね！しかし、古いですが、路面電車馬鹿を狂言回しにした黒澤明の「どですかでん」も良かったデスネ！
えっ、黒澤明の「どですかでん」ですか？
今度ぼくも探して見て見ますね。
しかしそれにしても、高木ともふみさんは、映画に詳しいですねぇ！
「どですかでん」自体が、路面電車の走る音ですので！
あの軌道音を「どですかでん」と聞き取るなんて、可愛らしいじゃないですか！
豊橋市の路面電車、まだ健在なのですね。岐阜は揖斐線や谷汲線に馴染みがありました。JR岐阜駅から忠節経由で黒野や本揖斐または谷汲へ。谷汲線は、こんな所を電車が走るのか、といったところを走っていました。モーターの音と相まって懐かしいかぎりです。
路面電車の木製の床面に沁み込んだ、機械油の匂いを今でも鮮明に、ぼくは覚えています。
そして手を引いてくれた、母の柔らかな手の温もりも。
いつだったか 豊橋へ出掛けた時 路面電車が走ってるのを見て「え〜まだあったんだ〜。懐かしい〜」って思ったものです。
確か 初めて路面電車を利用した時 停留所？に立ってる間 車の往来にドキドキしたのを思い出しました。
電車が道路を走るなんて…
景色が違って見えた気がします( ◠‿◠ )
一番最近路面電車に乗ったのは、母の故郷鹿児島でした。
３年ほど前だったでしょうかねぇ。
天文館から東へ、薩摩切子の会館に向う時でした。
車窓から桜島を眺めながら、ついつい母の面影を探した気がします。
