どうです！このロイヤルアルバトロスの雄姿！一度羽ばたくと、グライダーのように風に乗り、大きな弧を描きながら、オタゴペニンシュラの上空を舞います。
こんな急な半島の突端の崖の上で、愛を囁き合っているのでしょうか？体の大きなロイヤルアルバトロスにとっては、この地形がとても重要なのです。まず空へと舞い上がるために重要な急斜面の滑走路であり、天敵も中々近寄りがたい崖っぷちですから、子育てにも適しているのでしょうか？
草むらの穴ぼこの辺りが、どうやら営巣地のようです。
こちらの「ストート」や「フェレット」が、ロイヤルアルバトロスの卵を狙うんです。「カカポ」も「キーウイ」も、同様に卵を狙われるため、保護区として設けられたカカポ・リザーブの島でも、Department of Conservationの保護官たちが、罠を仕掛け徹底的に駆除しています。でもこうした天敵である「ストート」や「フェレット」は、元々ニュージーランドの住民ではありませんでした。ジェームス・クックがニュージーランドを訪れてから、移民船がヨーロッパから着くたびに、ハンティング用として持ち込まれたんだそうです。そしてそれが野生化して、ニュージーランドネイティブの鳥たちを、危機的な状況下へと追い込んでいったことになります。
このボードには、どのエリアに何週目のヒナが育っていると言った、そんな情報が保護官たちの手でアップデイトされていました。
元々あった生態系を維持し続けようとする事は、大変な労力と、そして崇高な精神が求められるものですね。天晴れ！キオラの国の人たち！

元々あった生物を､保護する(維持する)事は､素晴らしい事だと思います｡

空と海面の光とともに映えますね。あの飛び立つ時の不器用さはなんとも微笑ましくて 好きなんですけどね。
飛べない鳥カカポはとても可愛らしくて美しすぎたのですね。
確かに、カカポの羽の色はとてもきれいで、ハーブの香りがするんですよ！

そんな鳥たちを守っている保護官の方々の精神力には 頭が下がる思いです。
天敵の向こうには やはり人間がいる場合があるんですよね。切なすぎる…
でも、ご先祖様たちが、そんなことに思いも及ばず、持ち込んでしまった外来種が、このニュージーランドのネイティブバードたちを！
しかしキウイの国の人々の素晴らしさは、そんなご先祖様たちが悪気なくやってしまったであろうと事、ちゃんと認めて、それに対して人間力を皆がみんな発揮しようとしている事です！
どこかの国の、桜がどうだのこうだのと、あまりにもくだらなさ過ぎて見苦しい指導者や、それに諂う役人どもにも、爪の垢でも煎じてお飲みいただきたいほどです。
羽があったら、あなたの傍へひとっ飛び！
なんてねぇ！
