今日の「天職人」は、愛知県新城市の「帽子職人」。（平成21年11月4日毎日新聞掲載）

愛知県新城市で大正十二（一九二三）年創業の帽子製造販売、青木帽子店。二代目帽子職人の青木正巳さんを訪ねた。
鳳来寺山へと続く伊那街道。
新城の街道筋へ足を踏み入れると、継ぎ接ぎだらけの古い町並みが顔を覗かせた。
その並びの一軒。
ショーウィンドウの中には、チロルハットやハンチング、ご婦人用のつば広帽から、学生帽に運動会の紅白帽まで色とりどり。
「そのハンチング、よおお似合いですに」。格子柄が気に入り、ついつい手に取り被った途端、店の中から声がした。何とも人のよさそうな、正巳さんだ。
「昔のハンチングは、頭の天辺からすっぽり被るトップが、今よりもっと大きかっただに。でもあんまり大きいと、日本人の頭には合わん。だもんで体全体と比べると、どうにも頭でっかち。まるで七福神の、大黒様の丸頭巾になってまうで」。
正巳さんは昭和11年（1936）年、2人姉弟の長男として誕生。
だが中学3年に上がった昭和26年春、父が病に倒れた。
「夏休みは勉強どころか、毎日家業の手伝いばっか。だもんで何か分からんことがあると、父の枕辺へ飛んでって教えを受けながら･･･。洋裁習っとった姉が縫製で、後の作業を母と二人でこなして」。
だが翌年2月、父は還らぬ人となった。
「だで高校行けずに、そのまま家業を継いだだ」。
親方であった父にも縋れず、16歳になったばかりの新米帽子職人は、一人修業を始めた。
かすかな記憶に残る父の仕事振りと、病床で父が言い残した言葉だけを師と仰ぎ。
ちょうど時代は戦後復興が本格的に加速し、砂糖の統制が撤廃され、朝鮮戦争の特需景気に沸いた。
「当時は帽子を洗濯して、型付もやっとったもんで。その傍らミシン掛けの練習して、3年目でようやくハンチングを作っただ」。
自分が気に入った既製品の帽子を買い入れ、それを解いては型取りに明け暮れた。
「帽子は映画の名脇役。洋画がヒットすると、中折れハットやパナマ帽がよう売れただわ」。
日増しに職人としての腕も上がった。
昭和39年、看護師だったアキミさんと結婚。
やがて一男二女を授かった。
「振り返りゃあ、昭和40年代が一番大忙しやっただ。子供らも多かったし、大型ショッピングセンターもまんだ無かったで」。正巳さんは、表通りをぼんやり見つめた。
帽子の製造は、何と言っても裁断が命。
まずハンチングの庇（ひさし）となる芯を、生地に包（くる）み縫い込む。
次に側頭部のコシとトップを縫い合わせ、庇を合体させ、内側にスベリ（汗取りテープ）を縫い付け完成。
「帽子は小さ目のサイズの方が風に飛ばされるだあ。逆に、ちょっと緩めのサイズの方が、飛びにくいし一番ええ。人間も一緒らあ。一杯一杯で張り詰めて生きるより、ちょっとくらい緩い方が楽ちんだて」。
目指すは生涯一職人。
正巳さんはその言葉を繰り返し、半世紀を経た今も、ミシンを踏み続ける。

帽子を自然にかぶってる人って お洒落ですよね。特に 高齢の女性が 帽子をかぶって凛として歩いてる姿を見ると 目で追ってしまいます。
私の母も 通院する時でさえ帽子をかぶってるので感心しちゃいます( ◠‿◠ )

私は帽子が好きでいろんな物を買いましたが、アウトレットモールや通販サイトで揃えてます。目的先や季節によっていろんな種類を揃えるのも楽しいですね。
帽子一つで、気分が妙にリラックスしたりしますよねぇ。
帽子といえばオカダさん！ボクの帽子は同級生野球チームの野球帽くらい、、、。
帽子一つで、その日の気分だって変わっちゃいますから、不思議なものですよねぇ。

帽子は素敵でしたね。テレビで観ていた
「ローマの休日」が町の公民館で上映されると聞き直ぐにチケットを買い求めて
観に行きました。懐かしいです。
帽子って、お洒落の究極なものではないでしょうか？
ぼくはお洒落には程遠いですが、帽子が好きです！
